TODAY IN CLASS:
  • Our warm-up today was finding area of an irregular figure using more than one approach
  • Student pairs discussed circumference homework
  • Students investigated area of a circle formula by first approximating the square units inside a circle and comparing this to the actual area using the formula
  • Students investigated finding area of shaded regions enclosed by more than one geometric figure

Today's homework is finding areas and perimeters of triangles based on the formula we derived in class today!

TODAY IN CLASS:
  • Our warm-up involved finding a specific parallelogram with a given area using our geoboard dot paper
  • We had small group discussions about the homework
  • We derived the formula for the area of a triangle using grid paper and recognizing that any triangle was just half of a parallelogram
  • Students had time to investigate applications of triangle areas and perimeters
  • Using geoboards, we determined different parallelograms and triangles that met specific areas
