A Visit From James Houston Turner

Upper School students were treated to a visit from author James Houston Turner on Tuesday, October 4th.

Originally from Kansas, Mr. Turner now lives in Australia. He is currently in the US on his Too Ugly Tour to promote his books The Identity Factor and Department Thirteen. Mr. Turner encouraged members of the audience to use a healthy dose of SASS as they pursue their dreams and weather the unexpected challenges of life. His book tour takes its name from his rejection for employment after life-saving cancer surgery affected his appearance.

Visit Mr. Turner's Too Ugly Tour web site to learn more about his book tour.

How to Reserve the Mobile Cart and/or Lecture Center

The US Lib Mobile Cart and the US Lecture Center calendars allow faculty and staff to see when these resources are booked and when they are available. This short recording shows how to book your reservations to either calendar. Before beginning the process of booking to either calendar, look to see that it (the MacBook cart or the Lecture Center) is available at the time you need it. If it is already reserved at the time you need it, you will need to choose an alternate time or make alternate plans. If you book on top of an existing event, you will receive an email declining your request.

Strategies For Searching JSTOR

JSTOR is a rich, scholarly database. It can seem overwhelming at times. The strategies in the document below might help you find what you're looking for. The help pages in JSTOR are also a good resource for learning about JSTOR. Here are more tips for using JSTOR:

  • Follow the My JSTOR link to create a login or to login to your account. Save articles to MyJSTOR by choosing Save Citation. It's best to register (set up a login) WHEN YOU ARE ON CAMPUS! Once you register on campus you can access your saved articles from off campus without any problems.
  • Some items have abstracts, and they can be viewed by choosing Item Information.

Come by the library or email me (bniver@hollandhall.org) if I can be of assistance.

More Than Comic Books

Graphic novels constitute a small but rapidly growing segment of the publishing industry. Many prefer the term graphic books as more and more current titles in the genre address real issues today and real events from the past. Take a look at “That’s So….Graphic”, a display highlighting some of the most highly acclaimed titles from this popular medium.
