LAST HOMEWORK ASSIGNEMENT

Please make sure that your Noodle Tools bibliography is completely up-to-date for the Downtown Study Project by Friday, May 18.
This should include all citations for photos, interviews, lectures, etc...

Your iMovie should also include necessary citations for photos and any other content from outside sources; however, as long as your NT is up-to-date, not credit points will be lost if your movie does not have citations credits.

GUIDELINES FOR SELF-EVALUATION ASSIGNMENT

Please note:
1. A typed hard copy is due Friday, May 11:
This final copy should include revised work for questions 1-3 and responses for 4.
2. It is expected that the final draft will include all recommendations provided in/on you first attempt.
3. Original work for questions 1-3 must be turned in with the final copy.
4. If you cannot print this document at home, you must let me know that you will be sending it as a shared Google document or as a Word document attachment Thursday evening or before school on Friday morning. Documents emailed during the school day on Friday, will be assessed 10% penalty for late work.

*If you submit as a Google document, you must "name" the document - Humanities Final Self-Evaluation.

format:
1. MLA heading - complete and properly formatted
2. Please use the Word document and type directly into it, or if necessary, transfer the document to a Google document. You responses should be typed onto this document as it is formatted. Do not delete or modify the original format or content.
3. This is a formal piece of writing. It should reflect depth of understanding and application of appropriate grammar and writing mechanics. Language and word choice should reflect a formal use of language - no slang or casual speech.

This is potentially the last graded assignment before the official end of the trimester. It is worth 20 points. Several of you turned the first draft in late, or you did not type it, which also translated into late work = 10% deduction per day. Please pay attention to the work you must complete, put your best effort into all that you do, and finish the year with pride in all that you have accomplished.

IMPORTANT FINAL EXAM PREP

**UPDATES ADDED 05.03.12 *PLEASE READ!**
Please remember that questions 1-3 on the self-evaluation document in the original post material are due Monday, May 7.

1. If you have technology problems while trying to load photos this weekend, please stop trying, and let me know. I will help you trouble shoot on Monday, May 7. If there are problems that are related to the technology, you will not be penalized for late work. This work (transferring photos to Picasa) is not meant to take the entire weekend. Working with technology can be challenging, and we have to help each other problem solve. I will support you with understanding and flexibility. I need you to support me (and your classmates) by maintaining a positive mindset. Freaking out, complaining and whining are not productive responses.

Photos that were successfully transferred during class today (5.3.12) include Jazz Hall of Fame (Punit and Grant), Boston Ave (Caroline), Warehouse Market (Amanda), and 1 Greenwood photo - poster of Negro Leagues in Cultural Center. NO OTHER PHOTOS ARE IN PICASA AS OF 3:00 p.m. That means if you tried to load during class, it did not work, and you probably did not enter the correct title in the subject line of the email. Please note title changes below.

2. IT IS CRITICAL TO USE THE CORRECT ALBUM TITLE IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF YOUR EMAIL TO PICASA! ***ALL TITLES HAVE BEEN CHANGED. YOU MUST USE THE FOLLOWING APPROPRIATE group id TITLE: capital letters only!

(ORIGINAL POST 05.02.12) Please read all of this information. It is very important that you complete all of these steps to prepare for and complete your final exam for seventh grade humanities = English and social studies.

1. Mrs. Townsley sent all seventh grade students on Wednesday, May 2. This email provides detailed instructions (including a video) for transferring all of your photos and video to Picasa. Picasa is a web album / photo sharing site. We will begin to email photos to Picasa during class on Thursday, May 3. You will then have until Sunday night, May 6 at 10:00 p.m. to complete this process. All images and video must be transferred to Picasa before Monday, May 7. On Monday, May 7, you will begin to create your iMovie. Your iMovie must be completed by the end of your social studies class on Friday, May 11.

2. The attachment below is a self-evaluation as well as a necessary step in preparing for your final. It is required that you complete this document, and it will be included as part of the teacher evaluation of your final exam.
The document should be opened and completed as a typed word document.
- Questions 1-3 are due Monday, May 7. *The answers to these questions are critical to the overall success of your final project and presentation. You may work with your group members to answer questions 1-3
- All parts of question 4 are due Friday, May 11. The answers to these questions should be from your perspective only.

THIRD TRIMESTER - interim assignment sheet update

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

- If you were absent for assignments #2, #3, #4, it is not possible to make up this work and you should enter an exemption (EX) for these points. This means that there is no penalty, and the points will not be included in your total.

- If you were/are absent for any DTS field work visit #2 (03.30.12), #3 (04.13.12), #4 (04.20.12), #5 (04.27.12), then you must complete a make-up assignment for this missed day. You must complete an interview with your group and complete a brief written report about what the group accomplished during their field work session, what they accomplished on your behalf, and what you missed that would have been helpful for your project.

USING KEY WORDS

Today in the library you will review the rubric for the preliminary research phase of your DTS project.
**The assignment due at the end of class today is listed as part of #3 below.
**Please also read the "side note" at the end of the post. Please take care of this if it applies to you and your HH email account.

1. Research Questions: Review the criteria for research questions. Look at the research questions you formulated weeks ago. Would you change or add any questions? Could you improve on what you did weeks ago, or have you gone in any new directions, or learned anything new that would prompt you to create a new question?

2. Selection of Sources: Do you have the required four "highly appropriate" sources? Try to add another today by exploring the books on the table even if you think you have all ready "seen it all." Try to add another source today.

3. Note Taking and Keywords: Use this website to help you understand keywords and how to determine the best list of keywords for your research. After you have done this, work on your own and then with a partner to create a list of key words. After you generate this, you should be able to expand your research. Use your keywords to search for (and hopefully locate) new online sources. Also, use your key words to check the indices in several books.
*Your list of key words is due at the end of the class period today. Enter your list in Noodle Tools on it's own notecard. Title this new notecard "Keywords."

DTS RESOURCES

Below is list of resources provided by Ms. Stewart. Don't forget the great handout Ms. Stewart provided when she visited with the social studies classes a few weeks ago. It listed many useful site and suggestions.

I had difficulty making these links active, so you will probably have to copy and paste them into the browser of your choice.
*I have found a great Facebook page to "like." It would be interesting for anyone with a project in Downtown #1 or #2. If you have a FB account, "like" Tulsa Deco District. You may see a post that talks specifically about your project. I have seen posts for Philcade, Philtower, Atlas Grill, Atlas Building, Vandevers, Elote, Union Depot, and more.

1. The former archivist at the Tulsa History Society told me about it and all her posts relate to Tulsa history and she has a lot of stuff with buildings and neighborhoods that could be of use to the kids.

2. For the group conducting research on Cain's ballroom, they might want to look at John Wooley's From the Blue Devils to Red Dirt: The Colors of Oklahoma Music (and I know TCCL has that book in their catalog). If my memory serves me right, I believe it mentions Cain's and its history with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. It won't be of much help if they're needing information about its architecture. For that, the Tulsa Preservation Commission actually has some great information on their list of historic places:



3. Here is the link to the Tulsa Preservation Commission's list of buildings in the National Register of Historic Places. They can click on the building of their interest and it mentions architectural facts about the building:

4. Here is a link to the site "Voices of Oklahoma." It has a few oral histories of Oklahomans and one of them comes from a survivor of the Tulsa Race Riot.
