100th Day of School Celebration

We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Thursday, February 2, from 8:30 to 9:30. The children will be doing special centers in each of their classrooms and volunteers are needed for these centers. On Friday, January 27, each child received a small baggy (in the folder) in which they are to count out 100 items at home (items must fit in the bag.....like cereal, legos, paper clips, toothpicks, etc.) They may bring their collection to school on Thursday to use during the celebration. The items will be returned the following week. Happy 100th day to you!!

Happy New Year!!

Sorry this is a few days into 2012 and just now getting updated! Time gets away so fast!

If there is snow on the ground, please send snow boots or an extra pair of shoes, as we WILL play in the snow. Hats, gloves, and coats are a "have-to" also, please label them.

More later......

Polar Express

Polar Express Day will be next Tuesday, December 20. The children will spend the entire day in their pajamas. They may wear slippers and bathrobes if they would like to, but please send coats and tennis shoes for the playground. We will begin the day with a photo opp of each child, then hot chocolate and cake. At 8:45, we will board the bus and head for the WAC. We will watch the movie in Branch Theater. After the movie we will come back to our classrooms and get ready for lunch. After lunch, around 1:00, we will begin decorating the frames that will hold the photo taken earlier. We will need parents to help serve the morning snack and also to help us decorate the frames in the afternoon. This is a really fun and exciting day, so feel free to join us, wear your pajamas, too!!

Toys for Tots

This Friday, December 16, the Toys for Tots Marines will come in uniform to pick up our toy collection. They will be coming at 1:00, so you still have time to send a toy with your child if you would like to. The Marines will answer our questions for us and we will then help them carry the toys out to their van. Thank you for your donations!

Christmas Party

Our Christmas party will be this coming Friday, December 9 at 2:00. Mr. Bibens will come to tell the story of the Nativity, followed by birthday cake for Jesus. Please join us!!

Hanukkah Study

This week we are studying the Hanukkah story. We will culminate this unit of study with a party on Friday, December 2, at 2:00. Mr. Bibens will come at that time to share the history of Hanukkah, and then we will enjoy a Hanukkah snack. If you are able to, please join us!

Next Friday, December 9, Mr. Bibens will again come at 2:00 to share the Nativity story with us. We will then dine on birthday cake for baby Jesus!

Stone Soup

This week we are reading several different versions of Stone Soup. We are making story comparisons along the way. Please make sure that your child has brought in the vegetable that they were assigned to by Thursday. The kids will be cooking the soup on that day, and we will serve it to them on Friday. This will NOT replace their lunch.

Class Group Photo

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 9 will be group photo day for each class. We will be taking the photos starting at 8:30, so please make sure your child is at school on time. Photos are available for purchase for $8.00.

Cool Weather

Just a quick note to remind everyone that we go outside to the playground twice a day in ALL KINDS of weather, except pouring rain or lightning. Please keep an eye on the forecast and dress your child in layers. Girls will soon need uniform pants or tights, boys will soon need uniform pants instead of shorts. Please label all jackets with your child's name. We have extra sweatshirts and mittens that your child may borrow, but we do not promote the sharing of hats. Bundle them up!!

Halloween Field Trip

On Monday, October 31, we will have our Halloween party out at Sander's Nursery, on 161st street in Broken Arrow. Your child may come to school in their costume, with their uniform underneath. We will board the bus at 8:30. Sander's provides some wonderfully fun activities: a hay rack ride, a maze to run through, games, and popcorn and candy. Due to the drought, we will not be able to pull pumpkins off the vine, as we usually do. We will board the bus again around 10:30 or so. Please watch the weather and dress your child accordingly. Meet us there or follow the bus! Great video opportunity!

ARTworks Romy Owens

This week during specials, our kindergarten students will meet artist Romy Owens. On Wednesday, October 19, specials teachers will take the children up to the Walter Art Center gallery to see Romy Owen's work. Then on Friday, October 21, Romy Owens will teach a class during our specials time. This is very exciting for our children, to actually meet a "real, live artist"!

Hibernating Bears

Please have your child bring a stuffed animal bear to school on Tuesday, October 11 (the note we sent home had the wrong date). Have your child choose a stuffed animal that they DO NOT regularly play with or sleep with, as the bears will be "hibernating" at school for several months. If your child prefers to bring a different animal rather than a bear, this is just fine. Please label it! We will be talking about all different kinds of animals and whether they hibernate, migrate, or adapt to the winter weather.

Field Trips to Whole Foods

Whole Foods
As reinforcement for healthy eating and good nutrition, we will take a trip to Whole Foods at 41st and Peoria. Each class will go separately so that the Whole Food’s educators can devote themselves to giving the children a store tour and instruction. Kindergarten children will ride the bus. Parents may follow the bus or meet us there. We will load the bus at 9:30 each day. The tour begins at 10:00, and we will return to school by 11:30.

The Tying Tote is loaded with many activities to help your child learn to tie their shoes, or if they already know how, then they can enjoy extra practice. The News Bag will be your child's opportunity to present a current event to their class. All bags come with instructions. Please make sure all items in the bag are accounted for before returning them. More bags to look forward to in the future: Marvelous Math Bag, Shape Suitcase, Writer's Briefcase, Tooth Fairy Bag, and more!!!
