Bubbles and Balloons Day

Bubbles and Balloons Day will be Tuesday, May 22 from 1:30 to 2:30. During this hour, all three kindergarten classes will play together, on the playground, doing ten different stations involving bubbles, balloons, water, etc. The children will need to wear their swimsuit under their uniform that day. They may bring water shoes, but no water guns or water toys of any kind. We will need LOTS of parent volunteers for this day!!! Please contact your child's teacher if you will be able to help. Trucker Buddy!

On Thursday, May 10, we will welcome our Walmart penpal, Trucker Buddy, to our classrooms. Trucker Buddy is a truck driver for Walmart; he lives in Wisconsin. He will be making his annual pilgrimage to Holland Hall to spend the day with us. He will arrive around 9:00 or 9:30. We will have a look inside his truck, honk the horn, count the wheels and brainstorm about the items he delivers. We will celebrate with a pizza party lunch (lunch bunch has been cancelled for that day). Trucker Buddy will grace us with a science experiment before he leaves at 2:30. We will need help serving the lunch. Please join us if you can!

Woodward Park

On Tuesday, May 1, we will be taking a science field trip to Woodward Park. While there, we will be touring the green house and the rose gardens. We will be doing some recording in our science journals as we go. We will leave school at 9:30 and return at approximately 12:30. As before, we will send home a decorated lunch sack for you to provide a completely disposable lunch. Please send a snack along, too. Please join us for a picnic! If it rains, we will eat our lunches at school (we will NOT reschedule). It will be FREE DRESS!!!

Exciting Field Trip!

Gone Green!!! In culmination of our Environmental Unit in kindergarten, we are going on a field trip to the Tulsa Landfill and the American Waste Control recycling plant. Rain's class will go Wednesday, April 18; Narlock's class will go Thursday, April 19; Coulter's class will go Friday, April 20. We do not need specific volunteers, but parents are welcome to follow the bus and join in on the fun. We are eating lunch at the recycling plant. The kids have decorated a brown lunch bag, which will be sent home. Please pack a fully disposable lunch in the brown bag and send it with them on their respective day. Also, the children may dress in FREE DRESS on their respective field trip day!!! We will be gone from 8:30 to 1:00.

J. Patrick Lewis

Visiting illustrator and author, J. Patrick Lewis, will be here Wednesday, April 4. He will present to kindergarten children on that day at 8:45. Please submit your orders for his books soon!! Join us!

The Easter egg hunt will be Thursday, April 5. Each class will hide eggs for each other, then each class will hunt for eggs during the afternoon playground times. Join us for this, too!

Parent Conferences

Don't forget, there will be no school on Friday, March 2 due to parent conferences. Conferences are Thursday, March 1 after school/evening and all day Friday, March 2.

Save the Date

Save the date for the Q and U wedding! It will be on Monday, April 23 at 9:00. More info coming later. Save the date!!

Also, parent conferences will be on Thursday and Friday, March 1 and 2. Call Mrs. Herman in the office to schedule your appt.

Valentines

Our Valentine's Day party will be on Tuesday, February 14 at 8:45. Our second grade reading buddies will be joining us to help us read our valentines. Please have your child bring one valentine for each child in their class. Please do not specifically address them, just sign them. This makes it easier to put them into the bags. Donuts and water for all! Join us!!

100th Day of School Celebration

We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Thursday, February 2, from 8:30 to 9:30. The children will be doing special centers in each of their classrooms and volunteers are needed for these centers. On Friday, January 27, each child received a small baggy (in the folder) in which they are to count out 100 items at home (items must fit in the bag.....like cereal, legos, paper clips, toothpicks, etc.) They may bring their collection to school on Thursday to use during the celebration. The items will be returned the following week. Happy 100th day to you!!

Red and White Day

Red and White day will be this Friday, January 20. Your child may wear red and white to support Dutch varsity basketball. Go Dutch!

Happy New Year!!

Sorry this is a few days into 2012 and just now getting updated! Time gets away so fast!

If there is snow on the ground, please send snow boots or an extra pair of shoes, as we WILL play in the snow. Hats, gloves, and coats are a "have-to" also, please label them.

Polar Express

Polar Express Day will be next Tuesday, December 20. The children will spend the entire day in their pajamas. They may wear slippers and bathrobes if they would like to, but please send coats and tennis shoes for the playground. We will begin the day with a photo opp of each child, then hot chocolate and cake. At 8:45, we will board the bus and head for the WAC. We will watch the movie in Branch Theater. After the movie we will come back to our classrooms and get ready for lunch. After lunch, around 1:00, we will begin decorating the frames that will hold the photo taken earlier. We will need parents to help serve the morning snack and also to help us decorate the frames in the afternoon. This is a really fun and exciting day, so feel free to join us, wear your pajamas, too!!

Toys for Tots

This Friday, December 16, the Toys for Tots Marines will come in uniform to pick up our toy collection. They will be coming at 1:00, so you still have time to send a toy with your child if you would like to. The Marines will answer our questions for us and we will then help them carry the toys out to their van. Thank you for your donations!

Christmas Party

Our Christmas party will be this coming Friday, December 9 at 2:00. Mr. Bibens will come to tell the story of the Nativity, followed by birthday cake for Jesus. Please join us!!

Hanukkah Study

This week we are studying the Hanukkah story. We will culminate this unit of study with a party on Friday, December 2, at 2:00. Mr. Bibens will come at that time to share the history of Hanukkah, and then we will enjoy a Hanukkah snack. If you are able to, please join us!

Next Friday, December 9, Mr. Bibens will again come at 2:00 to share the Nativity story with us. We will then dine on birthday cake for baby Jesus!

Stone Soup

This week we are reading several different versions of Stone Soup. We are making story comparisons along the way. Please make sure that your child has brought in the vegetable that they were assigned to by Thursday. The kids will be cooking the soup on that day, and we will serve it to them on Friday. This will NOT replace their lunch.

Class Group Photo

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 9 will be group photo day for each class. We will be taking the photos starting at 8:30, so please make sure your child is at school on time. Photos are available for purchase for $8.00.


Cool Weather

Just a quick note to remind everyone that we go outside to the playground twice a day in ALL KINDS of weather, except pouring rain or lightning. Please keep an eye on the forecast and dress your child in layers. Girls will soon need uniform pants or tights, boys will soon need uniform pants instead of shorts. Please label all jackets with your child's name. We have extra sweatshirts and mittens that your child may borrow, but we do not promote the sharing of hats. Bundle them up!!

Halloween Field Trip

On Monday, October 31, we will have our Halloween party out at Sander's Nursery, on 161st street in Broken Arrow. Your child may come to school in their costume, with their uniform underneath. We will board the bus at 8:30. Sander's provides some wonderfully fun activities: a hay rack ride, a maze to run through, games, and popcorn and candy. Due to the drought, we will not be able to pull pumpkins off the vine, as we usually do. We will board the bus again around 10:30 or so. Please watch the weather and dress your child accordingly. Meet us there or follow the bus! Great video opportunity!
